Our Brand

The ge I"wa, meaning canoe, is a historical symbol for the Haisla people. In earlier times the canoe was used for transportation during hunting, fishing, and visiting. The mountains across from Kitamaat Village carry the outline of a ge I"wa bottom, which served as a marker. When the sun set on the ge I"wa, the Haisla knew the oolichan were coming. The geejwah, or sun, now represents the light of knowledge.

Our logo, created by artist Lyle Wilson, brings these elements together. It is central to our brand, and using it correctly matters. The branding package below shows the brand in use and explains how to apply it properly, and you can download resources to help you work with it.

The Logo.

The primary mark pairs the sun and canoe emblem with the full society name. Use the two colour version on white, light grey, or photography with adequate contrast. Reverse to solid white on red or black backgrounds. To request copies of the logo, please e-mail admin@kves.ca

The Brand Colours.

KVES Red leads the palette and should stay the dominant colour in any layout. Deep Inlet and Cedar Green carry headings, panels, and dark backgrounds. Sun Gold is an accent, drawn from the geejwah in the logo, and works best in small amounts. Pale Forest and Pale Grey are background tints and should never carry text. Use the hex values on screen and the CMYK builds for print.
