About KVES

In 2006 The Haisla Nation and Rio Tinto invested in a business partnership. In 2010 the institute became recognized as a Society with the goal to be a self-sustaining, non-profit institution.  Today, KVES provides training and certifications to get students ready for the workforce. KVES also provides services that help businesses in the area with recruitment and other business services.
The purchase of KVIC was subsequently made fully by Rio Tinto and equal shares in the corporation were gifted to the Haisla Nation. It was always Rio Tinto Alcan’s view to help support the Haisla Nation in their education and training journey. In fact, it was entrenched as an obligation by Rio Tinto Alcan as part of the Legacy Agreement. In 2010, KVIC was turned into a not-for-profit society which was renamed Kitamaat Valley Education Society. Most recently, we became an Indigenous Non-Profit Society.
